Parks and play areas - Dane John Gardens

Record details

The historic gardens, located within the city walls of Canterbury, date back to 1551. In 1790 a local dignitary named Alderman James Simmons laid the park into formal gardens. In 1999, Canterbury City Council restored the park with support from the Heritage Lottery Fun and local sponsorship.
Facilities include the bandstand, central fountain, tearoom and children’s play area including a maze. This is our most popular amenity site and we have had music concerts, day-long festivals, family theatre and community events here. The main event each year is the three-day Food & Drink Festival in September.
